My second ViuTV drama; the first was "Ossan's Love," and now I've seen "We Got Game" (2022). It's no secret that I watched both as a MIRROR fan.
While "Ossan's Love" has more quality, I enjoyed "We Got Game" more. "Ossan's Love" was one dimensional, but this one had a lot of things ongoing. Many characters, each with their own properly utilized story in the drama.
This isn't a drama that throws fancy effects at the screen. We Got Game's real magic lies in its honest portrayal of everyday struggles. Each character grapples with their own demons – lost dreams, family pressures, the sting of past failures. But on the court, they find a sanctuary, a place where mistakes can be forgiven and second chances are earned with every layup.
The drama features Keung To, Ian Chan, Stanley Yau, and Edan Lui from MIRROR, along with Fatboy Yip and Denis Kwok from ERROR and several members from P1X3L, including regular film face Louis Cheung.
What I appreciated about this drama is how they kept the story simple while addressing relevant issues such as friendship, mutual respect, mistakes, responsibility, love, and more. They did their best to cover as much as they could within the concept.
Personally, I enjoyed Stanley Yau and Fatboy Yip the most. Fatboy was entertaining every time he appeared on the screen, possessing a natural ability to engage the audience. Stanley Yau, in my opinion, is the most underrated actor in MIRROR. While it's too early to discuss his range, he impressed me with his portrayal of characters. He acts effortlessly, not appearing to exert too much effort, and always looks great. He outclassed everyone in the drama, in my opinion.
